INTERSECTION

Final Piece 1.jpg

D104 First Year Studio I, Fall 2018

Students were assigned to portray 'intersection' through exploration of materials and power equipment [that of the NC State College of Design Materials Lab]. Using the Materials Lab, create compositions that reflect the concept of a 'singular intersection' through the use of multiple materials and through the form.

This project consists of two compositions that explore the meaning of 'singular intersection,' made from MDF, plywood, and pine. Exploring surface alterations influenced the resulting compositions. Using different types of wood supported the stories portrayed in the compositions. To improve this project, a more defined focus on the meanings portrayed through materiality could make this project stronger. Each material is made in a different way, but all originate from the same source. This knowledge as a tool to illustrate 'intersection' could be better executed.
